You Dump It, You Drink It!!!

In January 1994, Mesa UWCD established a Used Oil Collection (UOC) program for the people of Dawson County. The pilot program (Funded in part by TNRCC Grant Funds and local property tax dollars) serves all oil generators in the Dawson County. The collection of waste oil in the consecutive years since 1994 has collected and recycled thousands of gallons of waste oil.

The District operates a truck that can transport up to 500 gallons and will travel to locations for those generating over 55 gallons of used oil. Anything less than 55 gallons of used oil may be poured into one of the 17 used oil receptacles (as pictured on right) located throughout the county.

The Directors of the district also realized the need to add a Used Oil Filter collection program to work along with the UOC program. The district now collects, crushes and properly recycles the used oil filters. The labor to cut and crush the used oil filters is performed by the Dawson County Adult Probation and the Preston E. Smith Unit.

Mesa UWCD is a licensed oil handler with TCEQ.
